December 7, 2010. SFM Capital Markets Training has been appointed to teach an introductory financial market course to students at London’s Quest College. The news marks an extension of Bridge, SFM’s training initiative for young people.

Quest College is renowned for offering some of the UK’s most prestigious business & office skills training to school leavers and graduates. Quest incorporates Queen’s, St. James’s and Lucie Clayton Colleges.

The two-day ‘Life in The City’ course presented by SFM has been designed especially for Quest students who are either interested in trading or considering employment where an understanding of financial markets would be an advantage.

The course presents a view of the world from the trading floor and gives a comprehensive and fun insight into the motivations and day-to-day operations behind today’s stock markets.

Day two of the course involves a trading simulation game which enables students to practice what they have learnt in a real-world setting; using specialist software with live price and news feeds, students compete to create and trade fantasy investment portfolios.

July 15, 2010. Sophis, the global provider of portfolio and risk management systems, is strengthening its training services with the help of business education experts, SFM Training.

Sophis’ goal is further improvement in client satisfaction levels through the extension across their business of new training standards, including the introduction of role-focused training.

After an initial rollout in the UK, the company’s training initiatives will come to be managed under the umbrella of a new, globally mandated Sophis Institute.

The Sophis Institute will also be working with its customer base to design a range of additional, non-core training products.

SFM Training were chosen as partners because they are specialists in the design, content and delivery of training programmes for financial technology and investment businesses.

SFM will restructure Sophis’ training syllabus, overlaying a global template across all of the company’s international training initiatives. SFM will also assist Sophis in applying best practice to the delivery of the courses themselves. One initiative, due to launch in 2010, is an online community through which Sophis clients will be able review and book training available to them.

Looking forward, there is provision for SFM to offer its own network of trainers for use by Sophis in client training. This will increase the training bandwidth of the Sophis Institute, allowing it to be more responsive and adaptable to client training needs.

September 20, 2009. As part of The Kids Company Positive Experiences Programme, some of our most entrepreneurial young people were given a unique opportunity to attend a two-day ‘Talent for The City’ course run by SFM Capital Markets Training.

Founded in 1996, Kids Company provides practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people. Their services reach 14,000 children across London.

The day long course provided the young people attending with an invaluable understanding of the financial district and offered them the chance to compete in simulated stock market trading.

All attendees were then invited to an awards and networking event on the 24th floor of the City’s Tower 42. Amidst stunning sunset views of London, they were given the opportunity to network with invited professionals from the finance & media industries before the winning teams were awarded prizes.

Huge congratulations to budding entrepreneur Nicola for leading her team to victory, while the charming Kacey’s astute direction and business acumen enabled her team to trade the most shares. Well done too to George, Aarif and Jamai, who were true gentlemen businessmen.
